Derby man, 60, faces animal abuse charges

DERBY - Derby Police arrested Thomas Michel, 60, of Derby following an investigation into allegations of animal abuse and threatening behavior.
Officers responded to a report that Michel had allegedly assaulted his dog on O'Sullivan's Island. During the incident, Michel reportedly threatened individuals who attempted to intervene and protect the animal.
As a result of the investigation, Michel, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of handgun ammunition.

Michel was arrested and charged with:
• Cruelty to Animals
• Criminal Possession of Ammunition
• Threatening 2nd Degree
• Breach of Peace
The dog was removed from the situation and appropriate measures were taken to ensure its safety and well-being, police said.
