Derby teen arrested today in recent Hamden firearms incident

DERBY - This morning at approximately 6 a.m., the Hamden Police Department SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a multi-family residence on Water Street, police said in a release.
The warrant stemmed from an ongoing investigation related to a recent firearms incident in Hamden.
During the operation, a 17-year-old resident was found to be in possession of a firearm equipped with an extended magazine and a conversion device commonly referred to as a “switch,” which enables a firearm to discharge in a fully automatic manner.
Derby PD charged the juvenile with Illegal Possession of a Machine Gun and Illegal Possession of an Extended Magazine. He was remanded to juvenile detention.
Great work by Hamden PD Swat and all of the our law enforcement partners that assisted with the operation. Derby PD remains committed to addressing illegal firearms in our community.
