Turnback Tuesday is sharing a David Gray watercolor that hangs in Derby Public Library.
This image is of the Ship Building Yard at Derby Landing. It was started in the spring of 1824 by brothers Zephaniah and Israel Hallock.
They ran a successful business over a span of 44 years, building 50 vessels. The last ship to be built was called the "Modesty."
In 1868, the brothers sold their property to the Naugatuck Railroad.
Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
