Derby Public Library seeks book donations for book swap, sale Jan. 10

DERBY - Derby Public Library will host a Sweater Weather Book Swap and Bake Sale Jan. 10 to benefit Friends of Derby Public Library. 

It will take place from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. We want to thank all those who have already dropped off books for the upcoming book sale. 

Next book drop off will be tomorrow, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

Greater Valley Salvation Army in Ansonia to present Fall Harvest Festival Oct. 30

 

Griffin Health Center in Oxford to host cooking demo on natural health tonics

OXFORD - The Griffin Center for Healthy Living Teaching Kitchen will host a free nutrition education presentation and cooking demonstration about natural health tonics.

Natural Health Tonics to Boost Immunity will be  Oct. 30 at 5:15 p.m. at The Griffin Center for Healthy Living at Quarry Walk, 300 Oxford Road.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, former Executive Director of Massaro Farm and sustainable nutrition expert Caty Poole will discuss natural health tonics that are high in vitamin C and how the natural antiviral properties of herbs and honey can be a powerhouse to fight common germs during cold and flu season and can be helpful in preventing cancer. 

Poole will also demonstrate how to make the immunity boosting fire cider and elderberry syrup.

Space is limited so registration is required.

Greater Valley Salvation Army slates Red Kettle Kick-Off at Marriott in Shelton

SHELTON - Greater Valley Salvation Army will hold its annual Red Kettle Kickoff at 8:30 a.m.  Nov. 20 at Courtyard by Marriott, 780 Bridgeport Ave.

Bill Purcell, President & CEO, Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The Salvation Army is active in virtually every corner of the world, serving 133 countries. We offer healing, hope, and help to all in need. 

Here in the Greater Valley we offer emergency assistance including a food pantry, financial assistance for rent and utilities, back-to-school assistance, and we offer holiday assistance to provide toys for boys and girls in the community. In addition, we offer an overnight camping experience for children and we have a community garden at our Corps location in Ansonia.
