Tradition continues as Ansonia celebrates the Irish at Saturday ceremony

Despite Saturday's chilly weather, talented students from the Mulkerin School of Irish Dance offered the crowd an energetic performance.

Lifelong resident Jim Crowley was named Ansonia's Mayor for the Day. He regaled the crowd with many family stories from years past in Ansonia.

Kala Farnham sang beautiful Irish ballads as she played harp and guitar outside City Hall.

Kudos go to the Ansonia Cultural Commission for once again presenting a great program.

Salvation Army Greater Valley recognizes volunteers with Ansonia Armory luncheon

Capt. Cheryl McCollum

ANSONIA - As a Salvation Army Advisory Board member I was honored to be a part of a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon Friday at the Ansonia Armory.

Capt. Cheryl McCollum deserves plaudits for organizing the upbeat event. It was held to recognize volunteers in the food pantry, bell ringers who stand next to the iconic red kettles to collect funds during holiday season, and many more.

McCollum presented certificates of appreciation to them as well as to community partners such as several supermarkets that regularly donate food to the pantry.

McCollum presents certificate of appreciation to Gregory Gatison, who accepted it for the James H. Wilkins Lodge of Ansonia.

Our Advisory Board has four members and McCollum emphasized she is always seeking individuals willing to serve on the board. Please consider doing so!

The Salvation Army Greater Valley Corps is located at 26 Lester St.

For information, call 203-736-0707.
