Klarides-Ditria shares update on state's coronavirus strategy
Dear Neighbors,
I wanted to take this opportunity to give you an update on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) given the news that has come out over the past several days.
The Governor and legislative leaders have been monitoring the situation and are determining the next steps as we balance doing our work as your elected officials and keeping our members, staff, and members of the public safe.
Earlier this week it was decided that activity scheduled for Thursday (March 12) and Friday (March 13) in the Legislative Office Building, including public hearings and committee meetings will be POSTPONED to allow crews to clean public spaces and staff offices.
There is an official state web page that offers comprehensive information, resources and guidance related to Coronavirus.

Griffin Hospital in Derby to offer 'Stay Grounded' fall prevention program

DERBY - Griffin Health is offering a free program to help individuals avoid debilitating falls from 1-3 p.m. April 1 at Griffin Hospital.
Entitled “Stay Grounded,” the program will feature Griffin medical experts from its Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Community Outreach and Parish Nursing, and Griffin’s Lifeline Medical Alert Service discussing the dangers of falling, especially for seniors.
The program is designed to help attendees prevent falls for themselves and their loved ones through fall risk assessments, instruction on exercises to improve balance and leg strength, medication review, teaching ways to reduce tripping hazards at home and how to get up or to call for help if a fall occurs.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of three adults 65 and older will fall each year. For those 65 and older, falls are the leading cause of injury, death and hospital admissions for trauma. Those who fall, even if not injured, develop a fear of falling. This fear causes people to limit their activities reducing their mobility, causing loss of physical fitness, which in turn increases the actual risk of falling.
Light refreshments will be provided by Griffin Hospital Lifeline.

'Turnback Tuesday' (on Wednesday) highlights The Home Trust Co. in Derby
Turnback Tuesday remembers The Home Trust Co., incorporated in 1873.
The office was originally located at 239 Main St., then in 1901 moved to 293 Main St., Derby. The Home Trust Co. handled Investments, Insurance, real estate, rents, fidelity bonds and deposits.
After many years of success, the Home Trust Co. joined the Second National Bank of New Haven / Derby Branch in 1966.
Interesting tidbit: our own H. Holton Wood who was instrumental in building our Library was the Home Trust President from 1894 to 1897.
