Derby Neck Library to host Yale football talk, holiday fun in December


Dinner and a Movie
DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave. will host “Dinner and a Movie” for ages 18 and older at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 4. 

Come enjoy a recent movie on Blu-Ray (high definition) and have a free dinner, in addition to snacks. 


Yale football 
The Library hosts Ansonia author and sports specialist Rich Marazzi at 6 p.m. Dec. 9.
He will discuss his new book, “A Bowlful of Memories, 100 Years of Football at the Yale Bowl.” 
 All aspects of Yale football history are covered. Come enjoy a great talk and purchase this fantastic book.
Light refreshments will be served.

Music and movement
At 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 the Library will present “Bedtime Music and Movement” featuring Miss Kathi. Come sing and dance under our indoor stars. Wear your jammies and bring along a favorite stuffed animal if you wish.

Video games
The Library plans a “Teen Video Game Tournament” from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 13.

All teens and tweens are invited to a fun afternoon, with free refreshments and competition for great prizes.
The Nintendo Wii U game this month is New Super Smash Brothers. 
No registration is required, just stop in and bring a friend. 

Potluck lunch
The Library hosts the Women’s Forum Holiday potluck lunch from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Dec. 15. All members are invited to relax and enjoy a sociable time. 

This is a discussion group that meets to share ideas on short stories, poetry, history and more.

Tech Talks
On Dec. 15 from 6-7 p.m. and again from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 17, the Library will present “Tech Talks.”

Staff members offer ideas on what is the latest in technology and how best to use it. You may wish to bring questions as well. 

Holiday Fun Day 
The Library will host an open-house “Holiday Fun Day” from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Dec. 17.

There will be games, entertainment, refreshments, and more. Bring your family and friends. There will be activities for all age groups.

Writer's Round
At 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 the Library will host “Writer’s Round” a workshop and discussion group open to writers of all genres—poetry, prose, fiction, scripts, song lyrics, etc. Bring your original works to share with others and work on a writing prompt.

Evening Book Club
The Library will present the “Evening Book Club” at 6:30 p.m. Dec.29. 

This month the discussion focuses on “Gift from the Sea” by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Copies of this small, inspirational memoir are available at the library. 
Come enjoy a lively and instructive session moderated by staff member Patricia Sweeney.

School in Derby to hold Christmas Bazaar Saturday

DERBY - St. Mary-St. Michael School’s Festival of Trees Christmas Bazaar will be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the school, 14 Seymour Ave.

Join us for Breakfast with Santa!


Santa also will be there for photos.

The Festival of Trees Christmas Bazaar includes Christmas Tree & Wreath Raffles, Chinese Auction, and new this year there will be 7.5-foot and nine-foot trees for sale.

Many unique craft vendors will be featured!

This school fundraiser is a great way to make memories and get in the holiday spirit.

Ansonia to host 'dog days' on Thanksgiving weekend


Griffin Hospital in Derby seeks advisory council members

DERBY - Griffin Hospital is looking for individuals to share their healthcare experiences in order to improve its patient-center care model.

Griffin is recruiting members for its 2015-2017 Community Advisory Council, which offers patients and their families the opportunity to provide feedback that will help Griffin enhance its care practices. 

The CAC meets once a month for about two hours at a dinner meeting.

There will be an open house in December to explain details about Council participation.

Credit union branch opens at Ansonia High School


Congratulations go out to teachers and administrators at Ansonia High School for launching a partnership with Sikorsky Credit Union and opening a credit union branch inside the school. A grand opening celebration was held Wednesday.
