Cassetti announces plan to remove graffiti in Ansonia starting in April

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti today announced another round of professional graffiti removal throughout the city. This is the fourth consecutive year of the initiative.

This latest removal focuses on the last annoying nuisance graffiti found on utility poles, street signs, and isolated markings remaining on public and private buildings.

“With this latest offensive, the city will be nearly graffiti extinct,” said Cassetti. 

Approximately 35 tags have been identified and will be removed starting in April by Trans-Clean of Stratford.

Once again, funding for this year’s cleaning is made possible by local business donations to the Mayor’s Beautification Fund.

Nearly a half-mile of graffiti was removed from the flood control wall, and more than 350 tags cleaned from public and private property in 2017 and 2018.

As they say in Montreal, a clean city is a happy city.

Ansonia removing graffiti from buildings, utility poles, walls in city

ANSONIA - More than 50 graffiti tags throughout the city are being erased this week.

The unsightly tags to be professionally removed (not painted over) include public and private buildings, churches, utility poles, and walls on Main Street, North Main Street, East Main Street, North State Street, Holbrook Street, Tremont Street, Liberty Street, and Fourth Street.

Including last fall’s graffiti removal assault, more than 300 tags have been permanently removed by Trans-Clean of Stratford. The organic-based cleaning formula provides complete paint removal from brick, rock, metal, and wood poles.

This round of cleaning marks the third major campaign against graffiti launched by Mayor David Cassetti since first taking office.
In 2014, nearly a mile of heavy graffiti was removed from the flood control wall and has remained clean since.
The removal ended nearly 35 years of graffiti that scarred the wall since 1980.
