From the 'Turnback Tuesday' archives: Freeman family in Derby
This week's "Turnback Tuesday" photo is of Nancy Freeman - the wife of the (in)famous "black governor," Roswell Freeman. The photo was taken in the backyard of her home, which was located where Osbornedale Park is now.
The Freemans lived in Derby during the early and mid 1800s. In 2012, the area where the Freeman home was believed to have stood was excavated in order to learn more about the family and the role "black governors" had in Derby.
