Griffin Gala in New Haven to highlight glitz, glamour of 1930s

DERBY – The 2023 Griffin Health Gala offers a lavish journey back to the glitz, glamour, and golden feeling of the 1930s Oct. 21 from 6:30-11:30 p.m. at the Omni New Haven Hotel, 155 Temple St., New Haven.

This Art Deco-inspired soirée will feature tantalizing cuisine, the vibrant melodies of Blonde Ambition, a performance by champion professional ballroom dancers, lessons on the iconic dances of the era and an auction for extraordinary experiences, including taking the wheel of an exotic sports car, helicopter flying lesson, and unforgettable international adventures.

Blonde Ambition is a contemporary dance band that has earned worldwide accolades for its outstanding repertoire of jazz-infused melodies and performances to sold-out crowds at renowned jazz clubs and at Super Bowl pre-game events. 

The band’s unique blend of classic and modern hits promises to capture the spirit of the Gatsby era, and have Gala guests footloose and fancy-free throughout the evening.

Black tie dress is suggested. Individual tickets are $225 and a table of 10 is $2,250. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

Proceeds will support Griffin Health’s mission to provide critical connections between patients and social services, coordinate outpatient care with compassionate outreach and expert navigation, and empower individuals with disease management education and support.

Griffin Health to honor Russ Foundation at annual Gala in Prospect

DERBY - Griffin Health will honor the Friend A. Russ Foundation for a century of support with its President’s Award at the 2019 Griffin Gala.

Since the early 1900s, the Friend A. Russ Fund has been an important benefactor of Griffin Health, starting with the construction of a home for nurses before 1920.  

Over the years, the Fund has helped to support expansion projects and purchase new technology to enhance the care Griffin provides to the community.   

The award will be presented to members of the Russ Fund Board at the Griffin Gala at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Aria in Prospect.

Russ was an industrial leader for the Lower Naugatuck Valley. 

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he came to Derby at the turn of the 20th century to settle the estate of a relative and became interested in the Robert N. Bassett Co. Russ joined the company as a laborer and quickly moved up the ranks to become its president. 

Under his leadership, the company became the largest manufacturer of steel and wire goods in the country. 
A longtime philanthropist, Russ contributed to many community organizations, including paying the mortgage for the Derby Lodge of Elks in 1915.  
Soon after the Russ Fund was established with a gift of $200,000 to serve the needs of the community.

Evening with the Stars

The 2019 Griffin Health Gala will be a star-studded event as top celebrity impersonators from Las Vegas bring glitz and glam to Aria.

Master impersonators, The Edwards Twins, will present An Evening with the Stars, a rollicking live performance of musical hits from legendary musical superstars. 

The Edwards Twins have performed all over the world and received rave reviews from national media, including NBC Today show, USA Today and The Boston Globe.

Tickets start at $195 per person. Black tie is suggested. 
Proceeds from the Gala will help develop and sustain essential programs and services that address the wide-ranging health care needs of the communities Griffin serves ensuring access to innovative, high-quality care in a healing, person-centered environment.

Griffin Hospital in Derby to honor chairman of Capital Campaign

Driving force behind development of Center for Cancer Care

DERBY- The 2018 Griffin Gala will honor a driving force behind the Center for Cancer Care at Griffin Hospital.

Alan Mathog will receive Griffin Hospital’s President’s Award at the Gala Sept. 29 at Quarry Walk in Oxford. 

Mathog was chairman of the Breaking New Ground Capital Campaign that raised $5.5 million for the development of Griffin’s Center for Cancer Care which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.

“Alan’s passion and strong leadership were instrumental to the campaign becoming the most successful fundraising effort in Griffin Hospital’s history which allowed us to achieve our vision of providing the Valley community with comprehensive, person-centered cancer treatment services in an inspirational healing environment close to home,” said Griffin President and CEO Patrick Charmel.

Mathog is currently the president of PMA Management Corp. of New England, located in Wallingford, which provides results-driven third-party administration and risk services. 

He has participated on advisory boards for numerous insurance companies, and has taught economics and finance at the University of New Haven and Southern Connecticut State University, lectured at the University of Hartford, and University of Connecticut, authored articles on Risk Management for trade journals and magazines, and is a frequent speaker for professional organizations.

The 2018 Griffin Hospital Gala will offer a unique look into the future of health care and will feature lavish food prepared by OnTheMarc Caters, tantalizing auction items, and lively music provided by La Blanc Entertainment from 6-11 p.m.

Held under a spacious tent at Oxford’s burgeoning new “Towne Center,” the Gala will feature one-of-a-kind décor highlighting the natural elements of fire, water, and stone. Guests will dine on exquisite and alluring cuisine by OnTheMarc Caters and enjoy the invigorating and eclectic sounds of La Blanc Entertainment to finish the evening. 

There will be a silent auction for guests to bid on exciting prizes, including vacations and one-of-a-kind memorabilia.

The location of the Gala highlights the emerging Quarry Walk, an innovative multi-use development that brings together residential and retail properties, walking trails, and a community green and amphitheater that will serve as a center for activity in the growing town of Oxford.
