City officials to host booth at Derby Day

DERBY – Derby Day is an annual community event that brings Derby’s downtown area alive with music, food, and festivities for the entire family.  Every year, Elizabeth Street from Main Street to the Derby Green is crowded with an assortment of vendors offering something for everyone.  

Mayor Anita Dugatto and city representatives will again host a booth at the festival, which is being held June 27, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 

“Derby Day presents a unique opportunity to connect with our community," Dugatto said.

Dugatto believes Derby’s government should be accessible and responsive to the people it serves. 
That philosophy is also the motivation behind Dugatto’s weekly Open Door Sessions and the creation of the City’s new website, www.derbyct.gov.

Visitors can drop by the booth on Derby Day to meet city representatives and learn more about planned improvements; city services and amenities, including Citiesense, Derby’s new commercial real estate listing platform; current job openings; volunteer opportunities; and other areas of interest.  

“This event gives residents and visitors an opportunity to get acquainted with our city and all that it has to offer - it’s another opportunity to Discover Derby,” Dugatto said.

The booth will also feature child-friendly activities centered on recycling.

To add to the fun, the Derby Inaugural Ball Community Fund will once again be sponsoring an interactive game during the event, suitable for all ages.  Each player successfully completing the game will win a free prize.

Derby unveils video promoting city as part of initiative

DERBY - Mayor Anita Dugatto wants people to know the city has a lot to offer families and she says it's a great community for businesses to invest.

She recently launched a Discover Derby initiative that includes a professionally-produced "Community of Distinction" video.

The five-minute feature can be viewed on the city’s new website, www.derbyct.gov.

Derby to release promotional video

DERBY – Despite being the smallest municipality in the state, Derby has a lot to offer and Derby Mayor Anita Dugatto wants everyone to know it.

This week Derby is releasing its Communities of Distinction promotional video.  The five-minute feature can be viewed on the city’s new municipal website, www.derbyct.gov. 

It is part of the city’s Discover Derby marketing initiative.

“The goal of this project is to shed light on the tremendous assets that exist in and around our community,” Dugatto said. 

Derby has a lot going for it – a large inventory of historic buildings, traditional neighborhood schools, a state-of the-art hospital and cancer center, abundant natural attractions, great recreational facilities, a vibrant arts community, and a compact city center. 

Its proximity to major highways, rail service, and a multitude of colleges and universities, as well as major employers, is also among its assets.

“Derby is in competition for residents and employers with every city and town from New York to Boston and beyond.  We need to let everyone know that Derby is a great community to invest in,” Dugatto said.

The video features local organizations such as the Valley Arts Council, Platt Technical High School, Osbornedale State Park, Griffin Health Services, Yale Community Rowing Program, Center Stage Theatre and ACES Educational Center for the Arts.  

“Each of these organizations represent an opportunity that is available to Derby residents,” Dugatto said.  

“These opportunities help define the character of our community and clearly reveal its potential.”
