Shelton Knights of Columbus to host 9th annual 5K in Derby

DERBY - The Shelton Knights of Columbus Council #1350 will host the 9th annual Greenway 5K Charity Road Race April 23 along the banks of the Naugatuck River in Derby.

The race, which begins and ends on the Greenway in Derby, starting at the municipal parking lot on Factory Street, kicks off at 8:30 a.m.

The course runs along the scenic Housatonic and Naugatuck Rivers on the paved riverwalk pathway.
The flat, easy 5K measured course is an out and back raceway that meanders along the rivers amid walkers and spectators.

The Greenway 5K Charity Run is a fundraising event sponsored by the local Knights of Columbus Council and all of the money raised will go to local charities in the Valley.

Bernardo Council #1350 is made up of Catholic men from the parishes of St. Joseph and St. Margaret Mary churches in Shelton. It is a local non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to helping families in need in Shelton, Derby, Ansonia, and surrounding areas.

“We are very excited to continue to bring this type of event to the Valley as an opportunity to showcase the beautiful, scenic greenway along the rivers in an event that combines volunteerism, family fun, and healthy activities for a good cause” said Jeffery Pearce, Grand Knight of the Bernardo Council.

Participants can walk or run the 5K (3.1 miles) and enjoy the beautiful scenery while helping those in need in the Valley.
Traditional award categories will be given to the fastest runners in different age groups, with a special category for Brother Knights of Columbus members.

Interested persons may register for the race online at www.hitekracing.com/greenway5k.
