Joint Commission awards BHcare Gold Seal of Approval

BHcare has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Behavioral Health Care Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

BHcare underwent a rigorous, onsite review on May 21, 2019. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Behavioral Health Care standards spanning several areas including leadership, human resources, information management, environment of care, emergency management, performance improvement, record of care, rights and responsibilities of the individual, care, treatment and services, infection prevention and control, medication management, waived testing and national patient safety goals.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend BHcare for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

“I’m so proud of the dedication and hard work BHcare staff put forth to achieve this recognition,” said Roberta J. Cook, President/CEO, BHcare. “Receiving the Gold Seal of Approval in health care reflects our continued commitment to provide the highest quality of care possible for our clients.”

From submission of the application, BHcare had one year to prepare for this accreditation visit. The extensive preparation was coordinated by several “Champion”, organized work teams. These teams reviewed policies and procedures, processes, data collection tools, enhanced documentation and evaluated the physical environments throughout the organization. The organization, as a whole, worked tirelessly to implement any changes needed to enhance the quality of service, increase safety and minimize risk to those we serve.
