Griffin Hospital in Derby to hold Pride Month celebration June 11

DERBY - Griffin Health will host a health celebration event in honor of Pride Month June 11 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in front of The Center for Cancer at Griffin Hospital, 350 Seymour Ave.

Dayne Bachmann, a local author, licensed clinical social worker, and gender development therapist, will kick off the event speaking about his professional and personal experiences.

The event will also feature free family-friendly games and crafts, free health screenings, information and education from physicians and providers with expertise in caring for the LGBTQ+ community, tours of the Griffin Health Community Garden with a Certified Master Gardener, and representatives from community-based non-profits with information about their services.

“This event aims to bring the community together for a family-friendly event that promotes self-affirmation, equality, and dignity while increasing the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community,” said Griffin’s LGBTQ Patient Navigator Elizabeth Laden. “We’re celebrating National Pride Month and that Griffin Health has earned leadership status in healthcare equity.”

Griffin Health is committed to providing a safe, comfortable environment for all of its patients, including everyone in the LGBTQ+ community, and recently received the designation of “LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality Leader” in the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 15th anniversary edition of the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), the nation’s foremost benchmarking survey of healthcare facilities on policies and practices dedicated to the equitable treatment and inclusion of their LGBTQ+ patients, visitors and employees.

To be more welcoming and inclusive of LGBTQ patients and families, Griffin adopted an LGBTQ-inclusive patient non-discrimination policy, an LGBTQ-inclusive visitation policy, an LGBTQ-inclusive employment nondiscrimination policy, and staff training in LGBTQ patient-centered care.
