DiBacco: 2 at Prendergast School in Ansonia test positive for COVID-19

Dear Parents and Guardians:
This morning, we were made aware that two individuals at Prendergast School have tested positive for COVID-19.
They were last in district on Jan. 28, 2021. All individuals with whom these individuals were in close contact have been notified and have been ordered to quarantine.
A sixth grade classroom and a first grade classroom will operate in a remote setting through Feb. 11 and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021. Prendergast School will remain open.
Under the District’s protocols, our school-based teams responded quickly to get the information needed to make the best decisions possible. While we cannot share the full details for privacy reasons, we can inform you that Ansonia Public Schools continues to work closely with the Naugatuck Valley Health District to perform contact tracing and quarantine close contacts to prevent the spread of the virus.
Quarantining as a result of close contact tracing is not an indication that someone has contracted the virus; it is simply a prudent and precautionary step.
We cannot oversell the fact that our best protection from broad transmission of COVID-19 within our schools and community is a knowledgeable and attentive population. You have a part to play in keeping everyone safe by performing a daily health screening.
Families should err on the side of caution when deciding whether or not to send children to school if symptoms develop. Health screening should happen each day with your child prior to sending them to school. You may always contact our nursing staff if you have questions or concerns.
We will keep you up-to-date on any further developments as they happen. We will also continue to follow all recommended safety protocols. Finally, please remain Ansonia Strong as we all face this national health crisis together.

Sincerely,
Joseph DiBacco, Ed. D.
Superintendent
