ANSONIA - The Derby Historical Society has announced a series geared towards teaching you the skills and technology of long ago.
On Saturday the talented Maria Schreiner will teach you the history behind hearth cooking in our Keeping Room fireplace.
Each person will assist in cooking an entrée and a dessert in our fireplace, AND you get to enjoy the meal after working that appetite!

$25 per person.

The David Humphreys House is a National Historic Landmark and one of CT's oldest buildings - don't miss out on this experience.

Space is very limited for this specialty skill workshop, so you must pre-register by calling 203-735-1908 or emailing info@derbyhistorical.org

From Maria Schreiner:

"We will all wear masks for the full duration of the event.  We are adding COVID safety to our food safety measures. I will contact each person prior to the event to make sure everyone is feeling 100% healthy. Your temperature will be taken prior to entering the House.

I will prepare and bake a demo cake cooked in a Dutch oven -  After the demo, we break into groups of two. These teams cook a cake from scratch in the dutch oven using hot embers in the hearth.

While this is all going on we have a vegetable lentil soup cooking on the crane in the 322-year-old fireplace. The soup simmers during the duration of the workshop. This is truly a special opportunity for me and for you!"

* Masks are required for indoor events according to current State of CT guidelines - Group/tour sizes monitored - Masks are not required for outdoor events unless 6' distancing cannot be maintained - Gift shop open to one family/group at a time during Open House events *

This is a press release from Derby Historical Society executive director Daniel Bosques.
