Celebrate Earth Day early and help us get our grounds at Shelton History Center ready for this season’s exciting upcoming events!

Bring your gloves, brooms, rakes, and a can do attitude! 

Troop 3 Derby Scouts to hold Colonial Cemetery cleanup on Good Friday

DERBY - Troop 3 Derby Scouts will hold a community cleanup of debris, branches, and trash along the entrance and within Colonial Cemetery on Derby Avenue on Good Friday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. 

They also will apply cleaner to the stones.

This is a Derby 350th event that is cosponsored by Troop 3 Derby Scouts. 

Bring work gloves and rakes. The cleanup meets student community service hours requirements. Lunch to be provided.

ANSONIA - Quinnipiac University students recently cleared brush and prepared raised boxes at the community garden located behind Salvation Army headquarters in Ansonia.

Olde Ripton Garden Club to hold cleanup of Ripton Road in Shelton

SHELTON - Come out and show your investment in helping keep our community clean from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Earth Day. 

The Olde Ripton Garden Club will be meeting at our beautiful Huntington Green and working our way up Ripton Road (concluding at Shelton's History Center). We will be picking up litter; gloves and trash bags will be provided. 

Individuals can park at the Community Center.

Any student in need of volunteer hours, please bring any necessary paperwork with you.

Shelton Clean-Up Project slates Sunday afternoon trash cleanup

SHELTON - Join the Shelton Clean-Up Project for a Clean-up of Shelton Avenue from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10.  

We will meet at the trail parking under the power lines (approximately 300 Shelton Ave.). 

Help us take pride in our community while making new friends along the way!

Gloves, garbage bags, water, snacks, and a limited amount of trash pickers will be provided.

Great way for high school students to earn community service hours!

Students mark Earth Day by cleaning up Ansonia High School grounds

ANSONIA - The students in Ms. Rarey's Spanish IV class and Mrs. Bennett-Morgenstern's Ceramics II class participated April 23 in a cleanup of the grounds at AHS to celebrate Earth Day.

The students were able to cover and clean up nearly the entire campus.

It is important for the health and well-being of local wildlife to keep the area clean of what may be harmful items. Additionally, it makes our beautiful building and campus look even better!

Many students commented on how great it made them feel to take part. Earth Day is Every Day!

Shelton Land Conservation Trust to hold cleanup at Nicholdale Farm

SHELTON - Join Shelton Land Conservation Trust volunteers at 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday for an Earth Day/Shelton Clean Sweep clean up around our Nicholdale Farm Parcel. 

We will be picking up trash along Rt 110 and have some other small projects around the property. Meet at the main parking lot.

Derby Police remind residents not to throw snow into street

"Please DO NOT throw snow into the street. When removing snow from your car, sidewalk, or parking area be sure to place the snow on your own property. This will help ensure the roads will remain clear and safe for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. You can be fined for any violations.

"We need volunteers (kids and adults) to help clean out and organize the field house [May 23] for the upcoming season.
"We are preparing the volunteer schedule in two hour time blocks: 9-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and 1-3 p.m.
"If you are interested in volunteering please send a message with your time block. This is a great opportunity for teens to get their community service hours for National Honor Society and other mandatory service honors. Invite your friends. We need at least 75 volunteers."

Volunteers sought for Earth Day cleanup in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Mayor David S. Cassetti and the Ansonia Board of Aldermen seek volunteers for an Earth Day Cleanup from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday. Rain date is Sunday.

This will be Cassetti's third annual Earth Day Cleanup of litter throughout the city. Reflective vests, pickers, and trash bags will be provided. Volunteers will meet at the Armory, 15 State St.

Over the past two Earth Day events, more than 1,000 pounds of paper, cans and bottles have been collected. All volunteers participating will be treated to a post-cleanup pizza party too!
