Ansonia Traveling Market Place debuts at Hilltop Hose Company

Renee Simpson, owner, 4 Pearls Desserts of North Haven, was one of the vendors Wednesday at the Traveling Market Place held at Hilltop Hose Company #5. She said because of the hot weather she was keeping the rest of her baked goods in a refrigerated case.

Elizabeth Anderson, owner, Lizzie's Corner Consignment and Gifts on Bank Street in Seymour, also set up shop at the market place.

There is still time to get there today. The market closes at 7:30 p.m.

Next week the Ansonia Traveling Market Place will be held in the parking lot of Nolan Field.

HARTFORD - State Sen. Joseph J. Crisco, Jr., D-Woodbridge, Tuesday joined Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, state Rep. Roberta Willis, D-Lakeville, and other dignitaries at the Governor’s Capitol Office for the ceremonial signing of Public Act 16-179 - An Act Concerning the Governor’s Scholarship Program.

Signed by the Governor, the law officially changed the program’s name to the Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Program, in honor of the longtime state representative who will retire at the end of her current term.

“In the 16 years she has served in the House, Rep. Willis has never wavered from her goal of advancing quality legislation that improves access to higher education, and I am proud to have served in the General Assembly with her,” said Crisco.

“Connecticut’s children and students have a brighter future due to her tireless efforts to advance causes related to education, and years from now, her commitment will be remembered each time a student applies for a scholarship through the Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Program. Her advocacy is matched only by her humility, and today’s ceremony was a remarkable moment to commemorate a remarkable career.”

The program, now known as the Roberta B. Willis Scholarship Program, is the state's financial aid program for Connecticut residents who attend a public or independent higher education institution in the state.

“This scholarship program is so important to Connecticut’s students, and I hope this news encourages more students to apply for funding to help advance their education,” Crisco said.
