Ansonia Police ask residents to limit driving during storm

The City of Ansonia is being impacted by a winter blizzard which will continue into Monday. Weather services are forecasting that we will receive well over a foot of snow. Additionally, the forecast shows the possibility of ice and freezing rain tonight.
Road crews have begun clearing roadways and this will continue throughout the storm. Residents are encouraged to limit their driving on city roads during the storm to allow for emergency vehicles and road crews to perform their functions.
All emergencies should be reported to the Ansonia Police Department at 203-735-1885. Any stranded motorists should immediately contact the police department.
There is a current parking ban on all city streets until 11 p.m. on Monday. Residents are reminded that no vehicle may be parked on a city street during this time. All public and school parking lots are open for parking.
All Ansonia schools are closed on Monday. All non-essential City of Ansonia buildings are closed on Monday. As a reminder, if the use of a generator is needed, please be sure to have it properly ventilated outside of your residence. All exterior vents for furnaces and dryers should be cleared of snow to prevent carbon monoxide build-up. Residents are asked to check on their elderly neighbors who may have difficulty at their residences.
Again, please stay off the roads as driving conditions have deteriorated.

Derby Hall of Famer of the Week features Mormon leader

Orson Hyde

The Derby Hall of Famer of the Week will be a surprise to most.
He was born in Oxford in 1805, but he was raised in Derby because of the death of both his parents.

At the age of 14 he walked to Kirkland, Ohio to be with Nathan Wheeler who had been raising him in Derby until the failure of his business led him to relocate to Kirkland.
At that point, Orson Hyde converted to the Mormon religion and began his rise in the leadership of the church! He even became one of the Twelve Apostles who were the leaders of the Mormon faith.
There's much more to the fascinating story of his life including missionary work in Jerusalem and eight wives and more than 30 children!
