Nashville Drive to perform Saturday at Great Hill Hose Company in Seymour

SEYMOUR - The Seymour Culture & Arts Commission will sponsor a free performance by Nashville Drive at 6 p.m. Saturday at Great Hill Hose Company firehouse, 14 Botsford Road.

Members of Great Hill Hose will be cooking hot dogs and hamburgers with all proceeds benefitting the hose company. Bring a chair and join us for a fun evening.

In case of rain the concert will be cancelled.

SHELTON - "Old School" is ready to rock the Huntington Green at 7 p.m. Wednesday,  Aug. 11.

The free concert will feature classic rock and blues. The band's playlist includes Chicago, Steeley Dan, and Van Morrison.

Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center in Derby seeks volunteers for diabetes study

DERBY - The Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center at Griffin Hospital is offering a free online Diabetes Prevention Program to eligible adults as part of a research study.

The study will measure the effects of eating healthy and improving activity.

 

Participants must be 18 years or older and meet income eligibility, residents of Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Oxford, Seymour, or Shelton, and willing to complete a year-long online program that runs weekly for 16 weeks, then every two weeks for the next four months, and then every month for the final four months.


Participants in this free program will receive a Fitbit activity monitor, wireless scale, and support from a health coach. 

They will also receive up to $200 for completing this study with the opportunity to earn additional money for losing weight.

Derby Public Library to close Elizabeth St. entrance Monday for maintenance

DERBY - The Library's Elizabeth Street entrance will be closed for maintenance on Monday, Aug. 9, weather permitting.

Please use the Main door or Caroline Street entrance to enter the Library that day. Vestibule Pickup will be at the Caroline Street entrance.
