Help! Actually it's all of the above!

Presenting the headliners for the second annual Rock the Valley festival Aug. 20 at Nolan Field in Ansonia: The "Cast" of Beatlemania!

Rock the Valley drew close to four thousand people in attendance last August. The new music and arts festival was well received by the community.

A wide variety of arts and crafts vendors, food to tempt every palate, live music, and a fireworks finale made for a perfect, family-fun day.

Organizers searched the region for top quality musical acts, and through hard work and dedication they proudly introduce this year's lineup, featuring:
The Kathy Thompson Band, All Funked Up, XYZ (Revisited), with the headliner to be none other than the one and only, internationally acclaimed, "Cast" of Beatlemania, making this year's event one
of the most impressive musical lineups ever assembled in this region.

Organizers also have extended the hours of operation,
improved the venue, and removed the paid admission policy.

There will be free admission to all, because, they say,
something of this magnitude needs to be shared with everyone in the community.

Mayor David S. Cassetti said today he's "looking forward to another successful event for the City of Ansonia."

"It's going to be exciting for the residents of the Valley," he said.
Cassetti has heard the band in concert. "They sound just like The Beatles," he said. "It's going to be a good time."

Local author to discuss novel at Derby Public Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library invites everyone to a local author visit at 6:30 p.m. May 23 when retired Derby

Police Chief Andy Cota, Jr. discusses his second book and first novel, Whitestone.

The story is about an individual named Alex who is headed

to the apex of his life when he starts to realize there is more to life than just living for today. 

When something outside of the norm occurs in his life, his experiences take him through a whirlwind of 

actions that teeter between all the possible realms of reality that exist. 

Andy called upon his broad array of life experiences and thoughts to write this fictional story.  

Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Crisco leads Senate passage of breast cancer screening bill

HARTFORD - State Sen. Joseph J. Crisco, Jr., D-Woodbridge, Wednesday led unanimous and bipartisan passage of a bill that would require insurance companies to pay for a high-tech medical procedure that has been shown in studies to detect 40 percent more invasive breast cancers.

Tomosynthesis typically provides clearer and more accurate views of a breast as opposed to a standard two dimensional mammogram, thereby allowing for a more precise image of the location, size and shape of any abnormalities.

Tomosynthesis also reduces so-called “false positives” compared to other breast cancer detection methods, and has been shown in many studies to find 40 percent more invasive cancers.   

The bill has special meaning for Crisco: his wife Pat has recently undergone chemotherapy, surgery, and now radiation for breast cancer.

“This modern technology of tomosynthesis is offering new opportunities for physicians to detect cancer and offer life-saving treatments earlier than ever,” Crisco said on the floor of the Senate in support of the bill. 
“This bill takes a very strong stand for women’s health.” 

The bill passed the House of Representatives last week on an overwhelming and bipartisan 139-3 vote, and now heads to the governor for his consideration.
