Derby Public Library to hold holiday tree contest to mark Derby's 350th


This winter season Derby Public Library will be holding a Holiday Tree decorating contest in conjunction with Derby's 350th celebrations!
In November patrons will have the opportunity to adopt a tree at the library to decorate.

Halloween, a favorite holiday for many across the globe, has an interesting and sometimes confusing evolution. 

It has changed quite a bit, both historically and culturally over the years, becoming much more commercialized. Scary movies, candy, ghosts and goblins, have become associated with this spooky time of year for the young and old alike; but how did it start? How did it evolve into the holiday we know and recognize today? 

We will look at the origins of Halloween, along with the variety of ways it has been celebrated over the years.
