Habitat Hike: Mammal Mania
Did you know that more than a third of all mammal species are rodents?
The Kellogg Environmental Center is exploring rodents and other small mammals with a family-friendly program and nature walk.
Come discover this incredibly diverse group of animals and learn about their lives, behaviors, and habitats – even compare real skulls!

The hike will be held Saturday (Aug. 10), from 10-11 a.m. Participants will meet in the Center to begin the hike. It is a mild, one-mile hike with some hills over forested terrain. The event is rain or shine.
The Story of the Monarch
The Monarch butterfly is one of the most recognizable and remarkable butterflies in the country.
The Center is hosting a talk about this amazing migrating insect, to be followed by a walk through a meadow to see a monarch habitat up close.
Follow the epic story of their migration all the way from Mexico to your backyard!
Learn about the life history of monarchs and ways you can make your backyard butterfly-friendly, and maybe spot some adults fluttering in the field.

Outdoor Nature Drawing
Learn to draw from observation the way field scientists do with this kid-friendly program! The instructor will explain the purpose of scientific illustration and give pointers on drawing techniques. Then, the group will go outside to find subjects of their choosing to draw. All abilities and skill levels are welcome to come outside and draw nature while surrounded by nature!
The program will be held from 2-3 p.m. Aug. 24. Participants will meet in Kellogg Environmental Center. Drawing materials will be provided.
Admission is free; registration is recommended.
