Crisco to host annual fair in Ansonia

ANSONIA - State Sen. Joseph J. Crisco Jr., D-Woodbridge, will host the 17th District Senior & Veterans’ Fair from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Thursday at Warsaw Park, 119 Pulaski Highway (Route 243).

The event will feature nearly four dozen state and community agencies and non-profits.

They include: the state Department of Veterans Affairs, Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut, the Ansonia Fire Marshal’s Office, Griffin Hospital Community Outreach, Naugatuck Valley Health District, University of New Haven Nutrition and Dietetics program, and the Valley YMCA.

Ghostly captures topic of talk at Derby Library

DERBY - The Derby Public Library has scheduled Ghostly Photographs, at 6:30 p.m.
Nov. 10.

Julie Griffin, photographer and paranormal investigator, will present the program.

With the hope of capturing more evidence for the existence of a spirit world, Griffin has visited many locations reportedly haunted, including Derby's own Sterling Opera House on Elizabeth Street.

These intense personal experiences have resulted in many stories to tell. 

Her presentation includes photos, along with an explanation of the photography techniques used.

Ages 16 and over are invited to hear real ghost stories you can see with your own eyes.
Registration is required.

Derby Neck Library club to discuss memoir

DERBY - The Evening Book Club at Derby Neck Library will discuss Riding in Cars with Boys, a memoir by Beverly Donofrio, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
Here's an excerpt:

"Trouble began in 1963. I'm not blaming it on President Kennedy's assassination or its being the beginning of the sixties or the Vietnam War or the Beatles....
"The trouble I'm talking about was my first real trouble, the age-old trouble. The getting in trouble as in "Is she in trouble?" trouble..."

Family Haunts to host Halloween event in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Family Haunts, a paranormal investigation group based in Ansonia, will hold a Halloween ball starting at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at 370 E. Main St. (the former Mustang Sally's Saloon). 

Admission is $25, and it includes live music by the Peter Herger Band, food, and contests. 
Admission is $10 for children 10-12; no one under 10 will be admitted. 

Families of four or more will be admitted at a discounted price.

I met a member of the group at the Ansonia Harvest Festival and she gave me this info. 
Sounds like a fun event, if you're not planning to be home to greet Trick or Treaters that night.

Entrepreneurship seminar slated at Derby Library


DERBY - The Derby Public Library will host a free program, Exploring Entrepreneurship, from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 4.

This seminar, presented by the Women's Business Development Council, will examine entrepreneurship from soup to nuts, and offer insight into what you need to get started.

Aspiring business owners will take a critical view of
their idea/vision, investigate its feasibility, and write a preliminary concept statement - taking the first step to turn an idea into a reality.

The WBDC is a non-profit organization that works to empower women and men to become thriving employers and more effective employees.

From starting or growing a business to advancing a career or increasing income, WBDC illuminates
business success in a tangible and accessible way.
