Greater Valley Salvation Army holds Red Kettle Kick-Off breakfast

SHELTON - As a member of the Greater Valley Salvation Army Advisory Board I'm happy to report that our Red Kettle Kick-Off Breakfast Tuesday was a big success.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt the community's support that filled the room at the Marriott Courtyard.

Here are a few photos from the event:

We enjoyed holiday music performed by the husband-wife team of Bob and Rhonda Venables. He is the Salvation Army’s Musical Director for the Southern New England Division.

Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce President Bill Purcell served as the emcee. Thank you, Bill!

Purcell and Salvation Army Capt. Cheryl McCollum performed 'The Christmas Song.' Their singing brought the spirit of the season into the room as the program drew to a close.

Purchase a Red Kettle Pin this holiday season and join the 2023 Salvation Army Kettle Club!

With a $100 donation, you will receive a 2023 Kettle Club pin. The pin changes lives. http://kettleclubsa.org/

A big thank you goes to DRS Seismic Consultants, LLC, a gold sponsor of the red kettle kick-off.

Cheryl McCollum posed with me and two friends after the breakfast.

I know I speak for the entire Advisory Board when I say thank you to all who attended!

Shelton History Center chooses Henry Brownson for 2nd best facial hair

... for NoShaveNovember

SHELTON - Our second contender at Shelton History Center for best facial hair this #noshavenovember is Mr. Henry Brownson.
This October 1869 wedding photograph of Henry I. Brownson and Anna Maria Booth shows off Brownson's impressive facial hair.
He had purchased the home now known as the Brownson House in 1866.
The couple had four children and the only boy, Harry Booth Brownson, is half of the couple that the Brownson House now covers with its 1913 interpretation of the house at the Shelton History Center at 70 Ripton Road.

Seymour Public Library to present talk on 'The Leatherman'

SEYMOUR - Seymour Library is pleased to announce that Mike Allen will present a talk on "The Leatherman" at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6.
For six years during the late 1800s, this so-called "hobo" hiked the same 360-mile, circuitous route through CT and NY every 34 days like clockwork. Residents could predict when he would return to their town.
Wearing a self-made suit of leather, from head to toe, he conversed with no one and slept in caves. And we still don't know who he was. But, people loved him.
This is an in-person event and no registration is needed to attend. The Library is at 46 Church St.
For more information call 203-888-3903.
