Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center to hold habitat hike for all ages


ANSONIA - Join us at 1 p.m. July 27 at the nature center for a special hike through three different habitats. 

The first being one of our Vernal pools, the second being our pond, and the third being our unique forest with an underground spring! 


Together, we will spend some time in each habitat discovering some of the different plants and animals that call each their home, as well as learn about what makes each of these habitats so special and important. 

This is a FREE, all-ages program (an adult must accompany children).

'Turnback Tuesday' highlights history of Star Pin Co. in Shelton


Turnback Tuesday is showcasing another item from Derby Public Library’s collection: an 80th Anniversary pen for the Star Pin Company.

Star Pin was established Sept. 25,1866 in 5,000 feet of floor space with 10 employees. They moved to Canal Street, Shelton in 1875, and by 1935, the this location boasted 125,000 square feet of space.

Star Pin Co. manufactured bank and toilet pins, wire hair pins, hooks and eyes, hook and eye tape, and paper boxes.
