Redwing Pond House Preschool in Ansonia holding registration
Two weeks of ‘priority’ registration for Ansonia residents will be held Jan. 16-31. General registration for all other incoming students will begin Feb. 1.
The Redwing Pond House is a high quality, licensed preschool offering a nature-based curriculum located at 21 Milan St. on the Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center property.
The children spend a great part of each day outdoors, exploring our natural playground, hiking the many trails, and planting and tending a children’s garden.
The curriculum is influenced by the changes in weather, wildlife, and the wonders of nature.

DERBY - The Derby Neck Library, 307 Hawthorne Ave., will present Tech Talks at 6 p.m. Feb. 13 and again at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 15.
Tech Talks is a monthly program devoted to what is new in technology and how best to use it in your daily life. February’s topic is maintaining your PC software.
Also, bring any questions to the meeting.
Video game tournament
The Library hosts its Smash Club’s Video Game Tournament at 3 p.m. Feb. 15. Bring a friend and enjoy a challenge together. All teens and tweens are welcome.

At 12:30 p.m. Feb. 20 the Library hosts Women’s Forum, a lunch group that discusses short stories, the arts, and Valley history. This month we feature a powerpoint presentation by researcher Pat Sweeney: "The Valley in the Great Depression Years." It includes details from the letters of Frances Osborne Kellogg. Bring a light lunch if you wish. We serve free coffee and tea.

Evening Book Club
The Library hosts the Evening Book Club at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27. This month’s selection is the classic “The Invisible Man” by H.G. Wells. We focus on short novels by award-winning authors.
All books selected are available at our library. At each meeting, the conversation is both informative and entertaining.

Free ice fishing class scheduled at Ansonia Armory
ANSONIA - A free ice fishing class is being offered by the Parks & Recreation Department in January.
The class is taught by certified instructors from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection C.A.R.E. Program.
C.A.R.E. is an acronym for Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education.
These are experienced fishermen who volunteer to share their experience and expertise with anyone wanting to learn.
The classroom instruction will take place at the Ansonia Armory, 25 N. Cliff St. from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
The classroom instruction covers the basics of the equipment, safety, dress, rules, and regulations and species identification.
Participants then have two opportunities to actually practice what was covered in the classroom session.
The first is at a statewide ice fishing derby held in Coventry Jan. 28. All equipment, bait, and instruction is provided free of charge.
The second fishing event is in Torrington on Feb. 4. The Torrington event is “No Child Left Inside” Winter Festival.
Various winter activities are offered at Burr Pond State Park. Ice fishing is one of the main attractions and again is completely free.
Additional information about the fishing events will be available at the classroom session.
Advance registration is required to insure sufficient materials are provided for the class.
The class is open to all ages, and participants, not just Ansonia residents.
It is recommended that children under 12 be accompanied by an adult.
Register by calling Dave Connelly, chief instructor, at 203-231-0946.
