Seymour Public Library to show movie 'The Monk and the Gun'

Filmed largely in Bhutan, the film's language is Dzongkha and some English but we will have subtitles! 

Rated PG-13 the film will run 1 hour, 51 minutes.

Film synopsis: An American travels into Bhutan in search of a valuable antique rifle and crosses paths with a young monk who wanders through the serene mountains, instructed by his teacher to make things right again.

Seymour Public Library slates program on Revolutionary Connecticut

SEYMOUR - Seymour Public Library will host a program about the Revolutionary War at 6:30 p.m. April 17.

"Tories, Spies, & Traitors: Divided Loyalty in Revolutionary Connecticut" will be presented by Mya Concepcion of The Connecticut Museum of Culture & History.

Which side are you on? 

That's the question that every single person in Connecticut had to answer in 1775, as the 13 colonies began a rebellion against British rule. Loyalty was not only a matter of words or opinion. For soldiers and civilians alike, loyalty could mean loss of fortune, of friends, and even of life. 

This presentation reveals stories - some well known, some obscure - of Nutmeggers who risked and sacrificed to support their chosen side.

'Turnback Tuesday' features view from Academy Hill in East Derby

Turnback Tuesday has a view from Academy Hill, Derby.

Academy Hill a.k.a. Derby Commons is located on the east side of Derby. This is where the Old Congregational Church was built in 1720, and was the location of one of the city's early schools.

According to "The History of the Old Town of Derby" by Orcutt and Beardsley, David Humphreys delivered a stirring and eloquent oration calling for volunteers for the War of 1812 at the meeting house on the Hill.
