Derby man, 39, arrested on threatening, breach of peace charges

DERBY -  The Derby Police Department arrested Adam Winkler, 39, of Derby, following an incident in which he allegedly was threatening people while yelling racial obscenities in a crowded area. 

Police said he was taken into custody without incident and charged with threatening 2nd degree and breach of peace. 

All charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Derby Police Department remains committed to maintaining public safety and preserving the peace for all members of our community. While individuals have constitutional rights to free expression, behavior that disrupts public order and threatens the safety or well-being of others will be addressed appropriately.

Derby man, 60, faces animal abuse charges

DERBY - Derby Police arrested Thomas Michel, 60, of Derby following an investigation into allegations of animal abuse and threatening behavior.

Officers responded to a report that Michel had allegedly assaulted his dog on O'Sullivan's Island. During the incident, Michel reportedly threatened individuals who attempted to intervene and protect the animal.

As a result of the investigation, Michel, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of handgun ammunition.

Michel was arrested and charged with:

• Cruelty to Animals

• Criminal Possession of Ammunition

• Threatening 2nd Degree

• Breach of Peace

The dog was removed from the situation and appropriate measures were taken to ensure its safety and well-being, police said.

The Derby Police Department takes allegations of animal cruelty seriously and remains committed to protecting animals from abuse and neglect.

2 charged after motor vehicle accidents March 8 in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Police said today that on March 8 at approximately 4:30 p.m. a motorist reported their vehicle had been struck by a gray Jeep at the intersection of Bridge and West Main streets.

The vehicle fled the scene and was last observed traveling south on Pershing Drive, police said.

Officers subsequently located the Jeep after it became involved in a second crash on Pershing Drive at Division Street.

During this incident, the Jeep struck two additional vehicles before colliding with a pole and catching fire. All four occupants of the Jeep sustained injuries, with one passenger suffering serious head and neck injuries.

During the accident investigation, it was determined that the operator, Amari Langston, had a Blood Alcohol Content of 0.23%, nearly triple the legal limit.

Additionally, it was determined that the Jeep was traveling in excess of 90 mph on Pershing Drive just before the accident.

Officers arrested Langston on a warrant today, May 8 in connection with the accident investigation.

Amari M. Langston, 22, of Stratford was charged with:

• Assault in the First Degree

• Assault in the Second Degree with a Motor Vehicle

• (4) counts Assault in the Third Degree

• (3) counts Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree

• Reckless Driving

• Evading Responsibility

• Operating While Under the Influence of Liquor/Drug

• (2) counts Failure to Obey Traffic Signal

• Passing on the Right

• Failure to Register Motor Vehicle

• No Insurance

Langston was held on a $200,000 bond and assigned a court date of May 8, 2026.

Additionally, in connection with the investigation, Malik Jackson, 24, of Bridgeport was charged Thursday with:

• Failure to Insure Private Motor Vehicle

Jackson was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and assigned a court date of May 21.

Derby Police arrest 2 on DUI charges

DERBY - Police arrested two men Thursday on charges of Driving Under the Influence following separate motor vehicle stops conducted within the city.

Both arrests occurred as a result of proactive traffic enforcement efforts.

Arrested were:

• Henry Gibbs (DOB 11/17/1985) of West Haven

• Iesha Gonzalez (DOB 5/10/1991) of Bridgeport

Shelton Police arrest woman after armed threats; seize drugs, weapons

SHELTON - Officers responded to a reported breach of peace at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at a multifamily residence on Howe Avenue involving threats with a firearm, police said Tuesday in a release.

Upon arrival, Officer Napoleone and Sgt. Nembhard learned that a female resident had allegedly pointed a firearm at neighboring occupants and made verbal threats. Moments later officers were able to make entry into the suspect’s apartment.

During a protective sweep, officers located a Masterpiece Arms firearm, a large-capacity magazine, and a small quantity of a white rock-like substance in plain view. The substance later field-tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl.

The suspect, Eunice Berrios, 60, was located inside the apartment and showed signs of intoxication. While being taken into custody, she made additional threatening statements toward the neighboring residents.

A firearm records check revealed no registration associated with the weapon.

Berrios was arrested and charged with the following:

•Breach of Peace 2nd Degree

•Threatening 1st Degree

•Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree

•Illegal Possession of an Assault Weapon

•Illegal Possession of a Large Capacity Magazine

•Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit

•Use of a Machine Gun (Aggressive Purpose) •Carrying a Dangerous Weapon

•Possession of a Controlled Substance

•Illegal Carrying of a Firearm While Under the Influence

Berrios was held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Derby Superior Court.

Derby Police arrest suspect in arson at Roseland Apizza

DERBY - Police today arrested Jose Guardiano, 27, of Derby after an investigation into a fire that occurred Thursday at Roseland Apizza.

At 6:24 p.m. police received several 911 calls reporting a shed on fire behind Roseland. The fire department extinguished the fire which was concentrated to a shed adjacent to the restaurant, police said in a written release Friday evening.

Officers reviewed surveillance video from the restaurant, which captured the suspect igniting the shed before leaving the scene.

At approximately 7 p.m. dispatch received a call reporting a suspicious male attempting to enter a 45 Minerva St. apartment building.

Responding officers located the individual and recognized him as the same person observed lighting the fire in the Roseland surveillance footage.

Police detained Guardiano and he was subsequently taken into custody.

He was charged with the following offenses:

• 53a-112 Arson 2nd Degree

• 53a-115 Criminal Mischief 1st Degree

• 53a-63 Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree

• 53a-181 Breach of Peace 2nd Degree

Guardiano was held on a $100,000 bond.

Derby Police arrest man, 26, on multiple charges after chase

DERBY - Derby Police have arrested Jonathan Villa, 26, for fleeing a motor vehicle stop last week which led to a motor vehicle accident and recovery of a dangerous weapon.

Police said Villa’s vehicle was seen traveling at approximately 6:45 p.m. Nov. 5 on Derby Avenue with multiple motor vehicle violations. PTL Tirado located the vehicle on Academy Hill Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.

Villa sped away, passing several cars on the wrong side of the road, police said. Villa struck a curb near High Street, lost control of the vehicle, and sideswiped an uninvolved motor vehicle, disabling Villa’s vehicle.

An inventory search of Villa’s vehicle located a replica Glock BB Gun (classified as a dangerous weapon) and two black ski masks.

Villa is a convicted felon.

Ansonia police charge Seymour man in parking lot disturbance

ANSONIA - George Suazo, 21, of Seymour was arrested by warrant Oct. 25 for his involvement in an incident on Oct. 3, 2025 in the parking lot of the Target store. 

Suazo was involved in a disturbance and attacked one of the responding officers during the investigation, injuring the officer, Lt. Patrick Lynch said today in a release. 

Suazo was charged with assault on a police officer and breach of peace second degree. He posted a $25,000 bond and his court date is Nov. 7, 2025 at Derby Superior Court.

DERBY - Derby Police recently conducted compliance checks at several local smoke shops to ensure adherence to state laws regulating the sale of cannabis and tobacco products.

Ansonia Police charge 2nd teen in electric bike armed robbery

ANSONIA - Ansonia Police today [Thursday] arrested the second juvenile suspect in the armed robbery of an E-bike on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old Ansonia resident was charged with conspiracy to commit robbery first degree, robbery first degree, larceny second degree, criminal use of a weapon, and carrying a pistol without a permit, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release. 

The juvenile was transported to the juvenile detention center to be held pending a hearing.

Ansonia Police arrest Rhode Island man, 21, in April street takeover

ANSONIA - Police arrested Matthew Kinney, 21, of Rhode Island Monday for his involvement in the April 26 street takeover in Ansonia. 

Kinney turned himself in and is the fourth arrest in the investigation, Lt. Patrick Lynch said Thursday afternoon in a release. Detectives continue to investigate to identify others involved in the incident.

Kinney was charged with riot first degree, conspiracy to riot first degree, risk of injury, breach of peace second degree, and racing. 

He posted a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned July 14 at Derby Superior Court.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

ANSONIA - Zackary Bellefeulle, 25, of Enfield  was arrested by warrant today for his involvement in the April 26, 2025 street takeover in Ansonia. Bellefeulle turned himself in and is the third arrest in the investigation. 

Police said more arrests are expected as detectives continue to investigate and identify others involved in the incident.

 

Bellefeulle was charged with riot first degree, conspiracy to riot first degree, risk of injury, reckless endangerment first degree, and breach of peace second degree. 

He was held on a $50,000 bond to be arraigned June 25, 2025 at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia Police arrest Bridgeport man in 2023 shots fired incident

ANSONIA - Xavier Glover, 23, of Bridgeport was taken into custody Sunday on an arrest warrant for his involvement in a June 2023 shots fired investigation, police said today. 

On June 14, 2023 officer and detectives from the Ansonia Police Department investigated a report of shots fired on Orchard Street and South Street. Through the course of the investigation Xavier Glover was identified as a suspect and a warrant was issued for his arrest. 

Glover was charged with unlawful discharge and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was held on a $100,000 bond and arraigned June 25 at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia Police charge New Haven man in domestic violence incidents

ANSONIA - On June 24, 2025, Darryl Giles, 35, of New Haven was taken into custody on two arrest warrants for domestic violence incidents that occurred in Ansonia on June 24, 2025 and June 16, 2025, Lt. Patrick Lynch said today.

Both of the incidents involved the same victim.

 

During the June 16 incident Giles is accused of forcing his way into the victim’s home in violation of a protective order. 

Giles was charged with violation of protective order, burglary second degree and criminal trespass first degree. He was held on a court set bond of $75,000 and arraigned June 25 at Derby Superior Court.

 

During the June 24 incident Giles is accused of entering the victim’s home in violation of a protective order and assaulting the victim causing serious head and facial injuries. 

Giles was charged with Assault Second Degree, Violation of Protective Order, Criminal Trespass First Degree, Disorderly Conduct and Operating Under Suspension, he was held on a court set $500,000 bond and arraigned June 25 at Derby Superior Court.

Ansonia Police arrest 2 residents on larceny, narcotics charges

 ANSONIA - Police said today that on June 14 two residents of Kentucky reported to the Ansonia Police Department that while they were camping in Rhode Island their car was broken into and property was stolen. 

The couple reported that airpods were among the stolen items and they were able to track them using their phone to High Street in Ansonia. 

During the course of the investigation a suspect along with an address on High Street were developed and a search warrant was obtained. During the execution of the search warrant eight of the 11 items reported stolen were recovered. 

The suspect, Carlos Sobel, 46, of Ansonia was located hiding behind the house and taken into custody. Sobel was charged with larceny third degree and held on $10,000 bond.

 

During the search warrant, officers located 30 folds of suspected heroin inside the home which led to possession of narcotics charges for Sobel and Alicia Martoni, 45, of Ansonia. Both were held on $5,000 bond.

 

Additionally, police said Carlos Sobel was wanted on three violation of probation warrants each with a $10,000 bond. 

Both Martoni and Sobel were held on their bonds to be arraigned at Derby Superior Court on June 16 [today].

 

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
