Derby Police arrest man, 26, on multiple charges after chase

DERBY - Derby Police have arrested Jonathan Villa, 26, for fleeing a motor vehicle stop last week which led to a motor vehicle accident and recovery of a dangerous weapon.
Police said Villa’s vehicle was seen traveling at approximately 6:45 p.m. Nov. 5 on Derby Avenue with multiple motor vehicle violations. PTL Tirado located the vehicle on Academy Hill Road and attempted to stop the vehicle.
Villa sped away, passing several cars on the wrong side of the road, police said. Villa struck a curb near High Street, lost control of the vehicle, and sideswiped an uninvolved motor vehicle, disabling Villa’s vehicle.
An inventory search of Villa’s vehicle located a replica Glock BB Gun (classified as a dangerous weapon) and two black ski masks.
Villa is a convicted felon.
Villa was arrested and charged with:
• C.G.S. 29-38 – Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
• C.G.S. 53-206 – Carrying a Dangerous Weapon
• C.G.S. 53a-167a – Interfering with a Police Officer
• C.G.S. 38a-371 – Failure to Insure a Motor Vehicle
• C.G.S. 14-12(a)* – Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
• C.G.S. 14-18(a) – No Front Marker Plate
• C.G.S. 14-147(c) – Misuse of Marking Plate
• C.G.S. 14-215 – Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
• C.G.S. 14-218 – Traveling Too Fast Conditions
• C.G.S. 14-222 – Reckless Driving
• C.G.S. 14-223(b) – Engaging Police in Pursuit
• C.G.S. 14-236 – Failure to Maintain Proper Lane Position (3 counts)
Villa was held on a $75,000 bond and was to appear Nov. 17 at Derby Superior Court.
Derby Police thank the Derby Fire Department and Storm Ambulance Corps for their assistance on scene and treating the passengers of the motor vehicle accident.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
