Dinner and movie, Medicare talk, beer history on tap at Derby Neck Library


Dinner and a Movie
DERBY - The Derby Neck Library hosts Dinner and a Movie, for ages 18 and older, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 4.
This month’s featured film is “Jurassic World 2.”  
Enjoy a blu-ray presentation on a large screen with free refreshments, including a pizza dinner at intermission.

Storyteller to visit on Columbus Day
The Library presents professional storyteller Monica Peterson at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8 on Columbus Day sharing fascinating tales from her own Italian heritage. 
Several stories bring to the fore the perils of immigration out of Italy and the fight against Fascism in Italy’s past, among other topics.  This is a program for everyone wishing to be entertained and educated by an energetic performer.  

Women's Forum 
The Library will host a literary discussion group, Women’s Forum, at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 15. 
This month we discuss two short stories with mystery as a theme -“The Pickup” by Peggy W. Fisher and “The Worst Crime Known to Man” by Reginal Hill. Copies are available at the library.  
Feel free to bring a light lunch; we serve coffee and tea. 

Medicare talk
The Library presents a discussion of how to approach the open enrollment period of Medicare at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 22.  
Led by a certified social worker in the field of senior issues, this seminar is free and open to the public. Bring your questions and concerns.  

History of beer
The Library hosts a beer tasting at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 25 along with a short history of the Octoberfest tradition led by Connecticut beer historian Will Siss.  
Enjoy free samples of beer from local breweries and learn how they differ in taste. For ages 21 and older only.

Evening Book Club
The Library hosts the Evening Book Club at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29. 
This month’s selection is a mystery -“Driving Lessons” by Ed McBain. Copies of the book are available at the library.  
Join us at our comfortable setting by the fireplace and enjoy a lively, informative discussion.
