Recuperation journey: In the kitchen

Mmm ... chocolate chip cookies.

Regular readers and those who know me may recall that my culinary skills could stand some improvement.

But I can add half a cup of butter and an egg to a cookie mix, mix the dough, drop spoonfuls onto a baking sheet, and bake the blobs for the right amount of time at the right temperature. 

They may not be pretty, but they are delicious.

I'm done in the kitchen for today. Takeout is on the menu tonight for us.

In my case it kept me in the house and forced me to make some magic in the kitchen: beef stew is in the crockpot and chocolate chip cookies are baking in the oven.

Recuperation journey: Beware of false advertising

Last week I used something I'd bought for a grab bag but ended up not needing: a ceramic container labeled chocolate chip cookie mix. 

It was a chilly afternoon and I felt like having something chocolate-y, so I opened it. 
To my dismay I found a sugar cookie mix inside. 
I baked the cookies and we consumed them anyway, but it was not what I'd expected. 
Big problem? No, of course not!

But I thought it exemplified the old saying, "let the buyer beware." 
And that advice could be timely, as many of us last-minute shoppers are in the midst of a December buying frenzy!

Angela, the Practical Medium, will be offering quick $5 readings.

Elsewhere in the Conti building, Three Bridges Coffeehouse is offering Christmas cookie decoration for $5, which includes one cookie and a cup of cider or hot chocolate from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. (Contact info@3bcoffee.net to reserve a spot.)

And the ladies at Legends of the Heart/The Odd Piece will offer light refreshments and last-minute shopping opportunities from 4-8 p.m.

SHELTON - The Church of the Good Shepherd will hold its 29th Annual Good Shepherd Cookie Express Christmas Fair from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 19.

The fair will be held on the grounds of the church, 182 Coram Ave.
