Ansonia Police arrest juvenile, 11, with concealed knife

ANSONIA - The Ansonia Police Department received a report at approximately 3:26 p.m. today [Oct. 2] from a school bus driver stating that a child had a concealed knife in their possession. 

The knife was not displayed in a threatening manner, and there was no indication that it was used in any way, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a release.

The child, 11, was arrested without incident, and there is no concern for the safety of other children at this time.

The Ansonia Police Department takes the safety of students seriously and is committed to ensuring the well-being of all members of our community.

Ansonia Police continue to seek assistance in locating Vanessa Morales

ANSONIA - Three years ago the Ansonia Police Department began an investigation into the disappearance of Vanessa Morales after her mother, Christine Holloway, was found murdered in their home.

The homicide investigation resulted in an arrest of Jose Morales but Vanessa has still not been located, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release Friday afternoon.

The disappearance is still an active investigation, and we continue to ask the public for assistance in locating Vanessa or any information that will lead to determining what happened to Vanessa.

The photos attached are an age progressed photo of Vanessa along with the photo of Vanessa around the time of her disappearance.

The Ansonia Police Department is determined to find the answers as to Vanessa's whereabouts. Please keep Vanessa, Christine, and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this holiday season.

UPDATE; Child located safe - Ansonia Police ask public's assistance in locating child, 1

UPDATE FROM ANSONIA POLICE: Royalty Bass has been located and is safe. She is currently in the custody of the Alabama Department of Health and Human Services. She will remain with Alabama DHHS until her father arrives to take custody.

ANSONIA - The Ansonia Police Department is looking for the public’s assistance in locating Royalty Bass, age 1. 

Her mother, Shameka Henri failed to return Royalty to her father after her custody visit, Lt. Patrick Lynch said in a written release.

Royalty is about 2 feet tall, 20 to 30 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink Minnie Mouse shirt and gray Minnie Mouse pants. Shameka and Royalty could be in the Stratford area but there is the possibility that Shameka took Royalty out of state.

Ansonia resident Roman Santiago, 4, son of Kellie German Santiago, is in New York City for treatment and is loving staying at the Ronald McDonald House! 

His big obsession: checking the mail. So if anyone wants to send him a little note, he would love to find your letter in the mailbox! He'll be there until March 12 (as of right now).

Family of local boy with MD asks for votes to win adaptive bike

Waterbury resident Cheryle Elliott is asking the community to vote for her son, Dakota Fortier, 14, in a Great Bike Giveaway contest to win a modified bike. She is also asking for donations toward getting the bike.  
Below is information from Elliott about her son shared from the contest website:

"Dakota is a 14 year old boy with Congenital Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy and Congenital DiGeorge Syndrome. 

He is fully wheelchair bound and needs full upper body support. He loves being outdoors no matter what weather it is ...
He only signs, uses facial expressions and uses a communication device. 
He loves seeing our family ride a bike and loves doing everything his father does. Most importantly he loves the outdoors! 
We choose the Van Raam OPair adaptive bike per weight requirements and the supportive back and legs.Please help Dakota achieve his bike!"
