Help Nix the Knotweed July 11 at Ansonia Nature and Recreation Center


Nix the Knotweed

Saturday, July 11

9:30-11:30 a.m.

Join Ranger Maria and the Conservation Corps as we continue our long-term effort to manage invasive Japanese Knotweed on the Nature Center property using non-chemical methods. 


Volunteers will help cut and remove knotweed from sensitive habitat areas to encourage native plants to return. 

Bring a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack.


For ages 12 and up. An adult must accompany children 16 and under.


The Nature Center is at 10 Deerfield Lane.

ANSONIA - Join our volunteers at 9:30 a.m. Jan. 24 to help restore wild places, swap seasonal sadness for woodland adventure, and find connection in the quiet beauty of winter

Curious about invasive plants and what they look like in the winter? Come along and help our Volunteer Conservation Corps find these resilient plants. 

Learn how species like barberry, burning bush, and oriental bittersweet continue to spread even when the temperature drops. It's a great opportunity to see how these plants adapt and what we can do to manage them. 

All experience levels welcome! 12 years and older welcome! Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Help Ansonia Nature Center volunteers, learn about invasive plants

Come along at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 22 and help the Nature Center’s Volunteer Conservation Corps find these resilient plants.

Learn how species like barberry, burning bush, and oriental bittersweet continue to spread even when the temperature drops. It's a great opportunity to see how these plants adapt and what we can do to manage them. 

All experience levels welcome! 12 years and older welcome! Under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Ansonia Nature Center seeks Conservation Corps volunteers


ANSONIA - Join us at the Nature Center, preserving and enhancing our precious forests and meadows! 

We’re on a mission to protect the integrity of our natural habitats by removing harmful invasive species and nurturing our valuable trees and plants.

Our team is committed to safeguarding the tree canopy and preventing the further encroachment of destructive plants. From cutting down invasive Asiatic Bittersweet vines to clearing out other invasive species, we’re actively working to restore and maintain the health and biodiversity of our landscapes. 

Conservation Corps work sessions will be held:  April 22, 29, 9:30 a.m.; April 26, 9:30 a.m.; May 6, 13, 20, 27, 9:30 a.m.; May 24, 9:30 a.m.

Whether you’re 18 or 80, our Conservation Corps welcomes newcomers eager to impact the environment positively.

Sunday, Nov. 5, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

ANSONIA - With the skyrocketing spread of invasive vegetation, the Ansonia Nature Center’s creatures need your help preserving the natural habitats. 

Join us for this workgroup that is aimed at cutting back invasive plants. 

Afterward, we will have a light lunch at the pavilion to brainstorm our next efforts. 

Register online. Ages 14 and up. Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We will be working on uneven ground as well as off-trail.

Ansonia Nature Center needs help with spread of invasive plants


ANRC Conservation Corps - Tuesday Workgroup – 9:30-11:30 a.m.
With the skyrocketing spread of invasive plants, the Nature Center’s wildlife needs your help preserving their habitats.
Join us for Tuesday's Conservation Corps for a morning of land management tasks. This ongoing program will allow people to work it into their sometimes busy schedules.
Please register in advance online. This program is for ages 14 and up.
Participants must wear appropriate clothing and footwear. We will be working on uneven ground as well as off-trail. Bring plenty of water and snacks too! Register here.
