'Turnback Tuesday' features history of Hallock Kettle in Derby

Turnback Tuesday looks at the Old Hallock Kettle. This old kettle was originally used to boil out blubber in the days of whaling.

Later, it was purchased by the Hallock family and used at their Derby Narrows shipyard. The kettle then spent time at Hallock & Co. Hardware on Main Street, Derby, later gracing Academy Hill as a landmark until about 1940.

In 1944, Edith Hallock Gardner donated the kettle to the Derby Public Library where it remains to this day.

Thanks goes to Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
