Scouts to collect food, care package items at Ansonia Stop and Shop

DERBY - BSA Troop 3 will hold two community service efforts Saturday at Stop and Shop, 100 Division St., Ansonia.  The Scouts will be stationed at Stop and Shop from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

They will hold a Scouting for Food “Fill the Troop 3 Trailer” event, where they will be collecting food items for St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank at 237 Roosevelt Drive. This event is in conjunction with the national Scouting For Food drive taking place throughout the U.S.

They will also be collecting holiday care package items and donations to send to servicemen and women from the Lower Naugatuck Valley. The Troop has been sending care packages annually since World War II, when more than 100 Troop 3 alumni were serving overseas.

“In Scouting, we are taught to do our good turn daily and to give back to others. This is our way of helping the hungry and showing support for those who are defending our freedom,” said Troop 3 Senior Patrol Leader Zack Thomas, 16, of Seymour.
Housatonic Council BSA’s Troop 3 was founded in 1914, and is sponsored by the Derby Second Congregational Church, where it meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays.

This is a press release from Randy Ritter, Scoutmaster.
