Derby students' efforts applauded

Irving School fourth-graders Sha'ron Howard, left, and Abby Kiraly photographed Jan. 14 with some of the more than 100 fiction and non-fiction books that had been collected at that point.

DERBY - Bravo to the fourth-grade students at Irving School for collecting more than 3,000 books in two weeks!

The books were donated to the Connecticut State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America.

Read an updated story here in the Valley Independent Sentinel.

I attended an enthusiastic kickoff for the drive at the school's Jan. 14 community meeting and wrote this story.

Kudos to Irving students and staff, in particular fourth grade teachers Edwin Croft, Holly Smith, and Frank Briganti, on their successful book drive.
