Scientist to discuss her book, 'The Alchemy of Us' at Derby Public Library



DERBY - Award-winning scientist and science communicator Ainissa Ramirez, Ph.D. will share insights from her book, "The Alchemy of Us" at 6:30 p.m. April 12 at Derby Public Library.

Winner of the CT Book Award and finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize, "The Alchemy of Us" unfolds how simple inventions shaped society and our lives. 
Ramirez will illuminate how everyday objects around us had a hand in changing language, politics, and even our bodies.

Ramirez received her bachelor's degree from Brown University and her Ph.D. from Stanford, both in materials science and engineering. 
She began her career as a scientist at Bell Labs and later taught at Yale as an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering. She now focuses her energy as a "science evangelist" with a mission of making science understandable to audiences of all ages.

Derby Public Library to present virtual author talk with climate scientist

 
DERBY - Derby Public Library will present a virtual author talk with David Goodrich at 7 p.m. via Zoom.

"We are pleased to welcome author David Goodrich to talk about his new book, A Voyage Across an Ancient Ocean: A Journey Through the Northern Dominion of Oil
"Dr. Goodrich will talk about his journey and share photos of his ride into the vast heart of North America’s new oil country on two wheels.
