ANSONIA - In honor of National Caregiver Appreciation Day (March 3), the Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers, 219 Division St., in partnership with Futuro Health is waiving application fees and highlighting its new tuition-free scholarships.

Until March 20, Futuro Health is waiving its $150 application fee for the School’s exceptional Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant and Patient Care Technician training programs. 

Additionally, the School has recently partnered with Futuro Health to offer its healthcare training courses tuition-free to qualifying applicants.

The School will host an open house and application assistance event March 12 from 2-6 p.m.

The School of Allied Health Careers provides exceptional healthcare education with knowledgeable and experienced nurses and teachers who are nationally certified or master’s prepared nurses.

Griffin Health in Ansonia offers allied health career programs

ANSONIA - The Griffin Hospital School of Allied Health Careers at 219 Division St. is accepting applications for upcoming semesters of its Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Phlebotomy, and Patient Care Technician (PCT) programs.

The PCT and Phlebotomy programs begin May 19. The CNA summer programs will begin June 9 and July 14.

The 15-week PCT program requires students to attend classes Monday through Thursday. The program offers ample hands-on training and opportunities for practical experience in the school's fully equipped mock hospital room and during the 80 hours of clinical experience. 

The course tuition includes textbook, liability insurance, CPR certification, clinical rotations and national certification exams.

The 13-week Phlebotomy program is Mondays and Wednesdays either during the day from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or during the evening from 5-9 p.m. The program offers an optional 32-40 hours of clinical experience. 

The course tuition includes lab coats, books, malpractice insurance, CPR certification and a national certification exam fee.

The six-week CNA course offers students an affordable and condensed schedule with classes Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or 5 p.m.-9 p.m. CNA program content includes infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communications, body mechanics, moving and positioning residents, personal care skills, nutrition, measuring vital signs, and restorative care.

The Phlebotomy, MA, and PCT semesters will begin May 22 and the summer CNA program will start July 17.

The accelerated CNA course offers students an affordable and condensed classroom schedule with classes Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. 

The CNA program content includes infection control, legal and ethical responsibilities, communications, body mechanics, moving and positioning residents, personal care skills, nutrition, measuring vital signs, and restorative care. Students will practice skills prior to their clinical experience. 

The program’s clinical experience will be at Griffin Hospital and a long-term care facility. The clinical hours are 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for a total of 40 hours. After successfully completing the course and clinical experience, students will be qualified to take the certification exam for a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut. 

The CNA course tuition fee includes the course book and workbook, CPR training, a 40-hour clinical rotation, and liability insurance.

The PCT program provides students with didactic and skills review on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and students have the option to take phlebotomy training on Mondays and Wednesdays from either 9 a.m.-1 p.m. or from 5-9 p.m. The PCT program offers ample hands-on training and opportunities for practical experience in the school's fully equipped mock hospital room and during clinical experience at the hospital or long-term care facility.

The Phlebotomy program offers 32–40 hours of clinical experience. The course tuition includes textbook, liability insurance, CPR certification, clinical rotations, and national certification exams. College credits are offered for eligible certification earners.

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program and the school’s new online Hybrid Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program begin in mid-March. 

The Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program runs for 28 weeks with classes five days a week from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., including 160 clinical externship hours at Griffin Faculty Physicians’ primary care offices and specialty offices such as gastroenterology, OB-GYN, surgical, and cardiology. 

The Hybrid Certified Clinical Medical Assistant program offers 22 weeks of online lessons with a weekly on-campus requirement for skills training from 6 p.m.-9 p.m., and an 80-hour clinical externship. 

Upon passing the NHA national exam for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, graduates of these programs earn two college credits.

The programs prepare students to become multi-skilled health care professionals that specialize in outpatient settings. 

Medical assistants perform both clinical and administrative duties and assist a variety of providers including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. Graduates of this program may find entry-level positions in medical offices, clinics, urgent care centers, and may work in general medicine or specialty practices. 

This program also provides diversity of other job options in the hospital or laboratory setting.

The Certified Phlebotomy Technician class starts in May and includes day and evening options of Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m.-noon or 6-9 p.m. 

The program runs for a total of 14 weeks, including a 32-40-hour clinical experience. 

Upon passing the NHA national exam for Certified Phlebotomy Technician, graduates will earn two college credits.

The PCT program runs 17 weeks with classes Monday through Friday offering students the flexibility to take day or evening hours Tuesday through Thursday, with Monday and Friday classes from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 

This includes 160 hours of hands-on clinical experience. After completion of this course, students can sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician and Certified Patient Care Technician exams. 

Upon passing the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam, graduates will earn two college credits. Graduates will also be qualified to take the certification exam for a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut.

The CNA course offers students an affordable and condensed schedule with day classes Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. in May and July. The program’s clinical experience will be at a long-term care facility in addition to Griffin Hospital totaling 40 hours. 

After successfully completing the course and clinical experience, students will be qualified to take the certification exam for a Nursing Assistant in Connecticut. 

CPR certification is included in tuition for all programs.

The event will provide information on the school’s highly successful and affordable Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomy and Certified Clinical Medical Assistant programs.

An Eligibility and Enrollment Specialist with The Workplace Inc. will also be at the open house from 3-5 p.m. to assist with enrolling potential students in the Health Career Academy program, which offers tuition assistance and other support to those pursuing a career in health care.

The school’s winter semester starts in January, with the Medical Assistant Program starting in April 2020.

Griffin Hospital's School of Allied Health Careers was one of the first hospital-based schools of its kind to be authorized by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education and offers Phlebotomy and other professional educational programs to provide training, education, and certification in selected health careers. 

Classes are taught by certified instructors in the Griffin Hospital Medical Building, 300 Seymour Ave.
