Sharing today's message from Jessica Stelmaszek, MPH, Health Director.

"Attached please find the latest [Monday] update on behalf of the Naugatuck Valley Health District.

"NVHD has identified duplicate cases/cases with multiple profiles in the CT Electronic Disease Surveillance System as well as a number of individuals who had their addresses updated out of the NVHD jurisdiction.
"Today’s data report reflects those changes as well as four new reported cases, including one COVID-19 associated death from last week.
Our sincerest condolences are extended to the family during this time.

"Additionally, various Sector Rules were updated on 7/23 so please check out the DECD Reopen website for the latest guidance:

Naugatuck Valley Health District: Update on COVID-19 cases

Naugatuck Valley Health District: 1 more COVID-19 associated death since Tuesday

Director offers explanation of increase in local statistics

July 15, 2020, 8:59 p.m.
Jessica Stelmaszek, MPH
Director of Health

Good evening,
NVHD has received and identified a number of cases and 1 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 associated death since the last data report on July 14.
The increase in these local statistics is due to data and case information in the State of CT Electronic Disease Surveillance System. This increase does not mean all of the individuals tested positive or passed away in recent days.
Some of these individuals are no longer expressing symptoms (if they had any) or have already met CDC’s criteria to come out of isolation.
Data includes results from laboratories all around the country sent to the State of Connecticut who then enters it into the secure surveillance system.  The timeframe of when results are available to the State and then to local health varies all the time and is not consistent.
Once the data is entered, additional information like demographic information, needs to be verified/confirmed and is not always readily available. Sometimes this information is updated after a result has already been reported.
Additionally, NVHD identified results of past PPS testing from nursing homes that had not been included in the local NVHD report yet.
We continue to strive to provide you the most current and accurate real-time data to the best of our ability during this pandemic and appreciate your understanding that all data presented is preliminary and subject to change.
Community transmission is still occurring and residents should still follow the current guidance of practicing social distancing, wearing a mask or face covering in public, and washing hands frequently and thoroughly.

Updated Valley profile report now available

Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments staff recently completed an update to the Regional Profile for the 19 municipalities comprising the region.
The Regional Profile compiles population, economic, and housing data from a variety of sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, the Connecticut Department of Labor, and the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development.
This report provides useful statistical data to public officials, local organizations, developers, private citizens, students, businesses, and others interested in population, housing and economic trends. NVCOG staff prepares an update each year.
The data is intended to assist municipalities with grant applications, updates to planning and economic development documents, and provide information to local boards and commissions. An analysis and overview of important regional trends is found in the beginning of the report.
More detailed tables and maps showing information for each municipality are found in the appendices.
As a supplement to the Regional Profile, NVCOG staff has created an interactive web-based application to provide access to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey data at the block group or block level. This tool allows users to obtain statistics for smaller areas within a municipality.
The Regional Profile report and web-based application can found on NVCOG’s website, www.nvcogct.org
“Just as the State of Connecticut is very diverse as a whole, the NVCOG region demonstrates considerable diversity in demographic data, which the Regional Profile summarizes well,” NVCOG GIS Program Coordinator Glenda Prentiss said. “Providing supplemental access to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey data at the block group or block level is a new feature that offers the opportunity to provide even more specific data.”

This is a press release from the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments.
