Clothing drive slated this weekend at Shelton company in memory of supervisor

SHELTON - A clothing drive at Blue Acorn ICI, 20 Constitution Blvd. South, will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in memory of a supervisor who passed away unexpectedly the week before Christmas.

Carl was a lover of animals, loved people, and always helped anyone needing help even if the person was a stranger.

Organizers of the drive are requesting unwanted clothing, coats, boots, scarves, hats, anything that might help someone in need.

Donations for furry friends will also be accepted.

Oxford PTO slates clothing drive, shred day fundraiser at Center School

OXFORD - The Oxford Parent Teacher Organization will hold a Clothing Drive and Shred It Day fundraiser at Oxford Center School from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 27.

Shred Drive:
A truck from Secure Shred It will be at the school and will shred all documents on site. Oxford PTO encourages people to protect themselves and their families against identity theft by attending the event. 
People can destroy unwanted junk mail, old family papers, documents, and confidential home/office papers safely and easily at the event. It is also a good way for people to recycle, PTO members say. 
People who cannot attend the event can still participate.

Clothing Drive:
The Oxford PTO will conduct its semi-annual clothing drive in conjunction with Shred It Day Oct. 27-28 all weekend at Oxford Center School GAZEBO, 462 Oxford Road (Route 67).
PLEASE BE SURE BAGS ARE SEALED AND LEFT IN THE GAZEBO.

Items being collected include gently used clothing (men, women, children), shoes, accessories (belts, pocketbooks, scarves, ties, hats), linens (bedding, curtains, tablecloths, towels), stuffed animals and toys (nothing breakable or too large).

All items should be placed in tightly sealed plastic garbage bags. 
Fragile items, as well as any books, large outdoor furniture, car seats or VCR tapes will not be accepted. Cleats that are donated need to be placed into a separate bag and marked accordingly.

Amity students donate 210 bags of clothing to My Sister's Place in Ansonia

ANSONIA - Amity Regional High School students in Woodbridge recently concluded their annual clothing drive for My Sister’s Place.

MSP is a unique family thrift shop at 380 Main St. 

All of the proceeds from the store benefit BHcare’s Umbrella Center for Domestic Violence Services.

The clothing drive is an annual program run by the student government. 

A total of 210 bags of clothes was donated by the students this year for a total of 2,638 pounds of clothing.

“We look forward every year to Amity’s clothing drive,” said Nancy Cahoon, MSP store manager. 

“We are grateful for their continued support of the store and the fight against domestic violence.”   

UCDVS provides free and confidential services to over 6,000 victims of domestic violence and their children. 
Services such as emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotlines, walk-in crisis centers, counseling, advocacy, and other supports are provided to those fleeing from domestic abuse.
