Our Hall of Famer of the Week was a man of many talents and interests.

Though born in New York, he came to Derby after serving in the Civil War and provided homeopathic medical services in Derby for over 60 years.

He also found time to serve as Derby's fifth mayor in 1901-1902 as well as serving in many other volunteer capacities.

Our Hall of Famer of the Week this week owned a jewelry store on Main Street [in Derby] but made his name in a warmer climate as the Deputy U.S. Counsel to Bermuda.

Derby Hall of Famer of the Week served in Civil War, state legislature

Our Derby Hall of Famer of the Week David Torrance was born in Scotland, but made his mark in Derby. 

His connection to another Derby Hall of Famer, William Wooster, during his service in the Civil War eventually brought him to Derby where he embarked on a legal career that brought him great distinction.

Graham Peck

DERBY - Our Hall of Famer of the Week, Graham Peck, was born in Derby and is buried in Oak Cliff Cemetery.

However, he made a name for himself as a distinguished author, artist, and war correspondent who reported events in China (1937-1946) during a tumultuous period of war and revolution.

Though we have no picture of Our Hall of Famer of the Week, he might be described as the most important name in the legal establishment of Derby by the legislature.

Back then, your area had to support a minister before the state would formally recognize you.

Derby Hall of Famer of the Week: Charles A. Sterling

Our Derby Hall of Famer of the Week built one of the largest and most prestigious businesses in Derby history. 

Charles A. Sterling started out manufacturing organs in enormous wood structures located along the canal near what today is Water Street. He later added pianos as the business thrived for decades. He had an easy walk to work as he lived on Caroline Street.
