DERBY - Join us [at Derby Neck Library today] at 3:30 as we watch the bleakest, most venomous Christmas movie ever made, Blast of Silence (1961).
Allen Baron’s brutal, hard-boiled film noir is a true Christmas miracle, made on a shoestring budget with abandoned camera equipment that the director smuggled out of revolutionary Cuba.
Its extraordinary 2nd-person voiceover narration, written by blacklisted writer Waldo Salt and delivered by blacklisted actor Lionel Stander, is iconic: “Remembering. Out of the black silence you were born in pain…You were born with hate and anger built-in. Took a slap in the backside to blast out the scream. And then you knew you were alive.”
Hot, fresh popcorn will be served!
The Library is at 307 Hawthorne Ave., Derby.
