'Turnback Tuesday' visits Derby Public Library's History Room

The History Room at Derby Public Library

Turnback Tuesday visits the History Room of Derby Public Library. This room houses our historic collection of books to be looked at and used for research.

When the Library was built and opened to the public in February 1903, this room was originally used as the Children’s Room.

There have been many a patron who remembers using this room for hours as a child. Exploring the world of books was as relevant then as it is now. Where else can you travel the world without commercials and never leave your chair?

Comparing these two images, not much has changed. The table and chairs are still here as well as the andirons in the fire place.

Thanks to Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week.
