Ansonia police seek information after New Haven man, 39, shot

ANSONIA - Police Friday afternoon reported that on Thursday, June 30 at approximately 1705 hours two Ansonia police officers on the Fourth Street side of Liberty Park reported hearing gunshots coming from the Third Street side of the park.
The officers ran towards the gunfire and found an individual on Third Street suffering from several gunshot wounds, police said.
The 39-year old male, identified as Daycus Bailey of New Haven, was transported to the hospital for treatment.
The suspect in the shooting fled the area in a vehicle prior to officers arriving on Third Street. Additional officers/detectives from Ansonia and Seymour Police Departments responded to assist in the investigation.
“We are investigating this serious crime and will continue our police presence in the North End area to provide a safe environment to the residents of our City. Unfortunately, there are members of this community or those that come into this community from other cities, who have no regard for the sanctity of human life and the effects that their behavior has on this community. This recent shooting is an example of this.
"Additionally, the lack of cooperating witnesses and in some cases, uncooperative victims, makes the investigation and successful completion of these incidents more difficult. Having information on a major incident and not providing that information does a disservice to the victim and the community as a whole. We are asking for the public’s help and have established anonymous tip lines for witnesses to provide information and talk with detectives.” – Chief Wayne Williams
