'Turnback Tuesday' features song played at Commodore Hull Theatre in Derby

Turnback Tuesday is bursting out in song. Not just any song, but one that was played at the Commodore Hull Theatre.

This piece of sheet music proudly boasts the theatre and names of businesses in Derby. The Theatre opened its doors on May 7, 1928 and closed on Nov. 23, 1954. It was located at 59 Elizabeth St., and the building itself is still there today.

The performance of this song occurred sometime in 1929 under the direction of Alfred Gottesman of Theatrical Enterprises who sold it to Warner Bros. in 1929. Alfred later became associated with the building of the Dunes Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip in the 1950s.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
