'Turnback Tuesday' (on Thursday) highlights clothier business

Turnback Tuesday goes back to a business that started circa 1883 called Allis & Redshaw (T.S. Allis & J.G. Redshaw) at 105 Main St., Derby.

They specialized as Clothiers & Furnishing Goods, and moved their business to 231 Main St. in 1890.

The team broke up in 1892 with J. G. Redshaw moving to Seymour, and T. S. Allis changing the name to Allis & Co. Here lies the mystery. There is no record of Allis & Redshaw in our City Directories to confirm that they were in fact in Seymour.

In an interesting juxtaposition, T.S. Allis also worked as a clerk in 1879 for V.A. Page’s, the Turnback Tuesday we highlighted last week.

Thanks goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
