'Turnback Tuesday' features Derby souvenir toothpick holders

Turnback Tuesday looks at interesting items at the [Derby Public] Library.

These two souvenir toothpick holders were made in Germany in the late 19th / early 20th century. One is of the Soldier Monument on the Derby Green and the other is of the Naugatuck River / Bridge. Both are cobalt blue with gold gilt accents. Souvenirs like this were produced and sold in towns and cities all across this country.

Wonder if they were purchased at the Woolworth’s store on Main Street in Derby?

Thanks to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
