Ansonia celebrates Italian heritage on Columbus Day
Ansonia Mayor David S. Cassetti raised the Italian flag on Columbus Day Monday in front of City Hall.
He said it was the first time the city had raised a flag to celebrate Italian heritage. Cassetti credited the city sewer administrator Rita St. Jacques for proposing the idea and donating the flag. He said he plans to make the ceremony an annual event.
The Rev. Jeffrey Gubbiotti, pastor, Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia, was one of about 15 people who attended the event.
