'Turnback Tuesday' features pledges for Soldier's Monument in Derby

This week's "Turnback Tuesday" features a subscription book for the building of “a suitable monument in memory of the soldiers of Derby who lost their lives in this late war."

The book is dated Aug. 1, 1876 and lists names and pledge amounts for the Soldier's Monument construction on the Derby Green.
The monument recently received a full restoration and was rededicated July 10, 2018.
Former Valley Community Foundation President/CEO and Derby native Jamie Cohen conceived the idea and led the fundraising effort to restore the monument. The restoration fund still exists within the VCF.

A big thank you goes to the Derby Public Library staff for sharing interesting local history each week!
